30 Second Sound Delay on Linux

All in-world and interface sounds play around 30 seconds after they're triggered. This happens right out of the box in a fresh install. I don't have this problem with an unaltered R7 installation, nor the latest Linden Lab and Firestorm viewers.

In Firestorm and LL the OpenAL line in the startup script is commented out. I tried commenting it out and it cut the delay down by maybe half, but its still a tremendous sound delay.

I'm running Linux Mint 13 64-bit.
